Introduction to Python with LEGO® Education G6-12

The ESC of Central Ohio, powered by LEGO® Education, is providing professional learning for G6-12 educators in computer science to support the expansion of CS programs in PreK-12 schools that are aligned with Ohio state standards. Teachers will leave with a LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime set, a SPIKE Prime Expansion set, a teacher training kit, and a certificate confirming the completed 18 contact hours.

This course is free to any currently licensed teacher in Ohio. 

Course Format

• 6 Hour In-Person Professional Development Day 1– Monday, July 8th 2024, 9am - 4PM

Note: The cutoff for registration is: Midnight, June 19th, 2024

In this professional learning series, teachers will…

• develop basic knowledge of text-based programming.
• develop pedagogy and instructional strategies to support differentiation and scaffolding of knowledge and skills.
• develop strategies to support classroom culture, including student communication and collaboration when designing computational artifacts.
• share and collaborate with others to deepen professional knowledge for teaching computer science.

Project Goals
Equity - Students in OH schools will have access to high-quality, project- based learning experiences that foster and develop Computer Science knowledge, skills and competencies.

Engagement - Students will be active in their own learning by engaging in project based hands-on activities that engage their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Efficacy - Teachers will be able to effectively facilitate hands-on, project- based learning experiences focused on Computer Science that are aligned to the Ohio state standards for CS.

Expansion - Successful implementation will lead to expansion of CS programs within schools where teachers have become advocates for computer science.
